How I Doubled My Instagram Followers in 5 Weeks

Welcome back to the second installment of CJT online! In today's post we will be talking about how I increased my Instagram followers by 40% in 5 weeks. Now, as with every post you will be reading on this blog, you all know my philosophy about putting in work to see the needle move. Yes, the tips I will be giving you are actionable methods for you to increase your Instagram channel, but you must do them on a consistent basis. Ok, now that we got that out of the way, let's talk about the steps I took to increase my followers:

1. Use Hashtags

Instagram is a huge community filled with diverse folks with an array of interests. So, set your account apart by using relevant and actively used hashtags that will propel your content in front of the right audiences. 

During my rebrand transition, I knew I had to find a new audience who would respond to the entrepreneurial and inspirational content I create. So, after finding 83 hashtags that directly targeted other female entrepreneurs, these tags helped me revamp and grow my account through consistent use. When used strategically and consistently you can increase your following as well! 

Instagram also knows how important hashtags are to business owners like you and me! And recently, Instagram has installed a new feature called, "Related Hashtags." 

Here is where you can keep up with the trending hashtags (related to the tag you searched for) of that day. For instance, click on the TAGS tab in the app and search for, "#girlboss." After searching for that tag, take a look above the top posts and you will see a scrolling list of the trending hashtags related to #girlboss. These hashtags are also connected to Instagrammers in the female entrepreneurship industry. 

No matter if you are a #yogi, #vegan or #traveler, this related hashtag search will definitely work for you!

2. Network 

Through hashtags, you can begin networking with with fellow bloggers and entrepreneurs! When I network, I do the following:

  • Like a page of interest
  • Comment on a few pieces pf content on that page
  • Sign off with a genuine compliment on one last photo

When I connect with other amazing folks, I make sure their content is relevant to my target audience and up-to-date. See, it's as easy as pie! Networking is the key to a successful brand on Instagram.

3. Post Valuable Content

Instagram is all about the content ... VALUABLE content. In order for you to show up and show out, you must be sharing clear visuals and content that your community can relate to. Think about what your brand stands for and how you can create content that is not only relevant to your brand, but content that can inspire, educate or inform your online community. 4. Be Responsive

Answer your comments! This is not a magical answer, but it will show your online community you care. So, if you have not responded to comments on Instagram, I am encouraging you to do so, so that you can continue to build an engaged community.

5. Know Your Target

Who do you create for? How will this content inspire, educate or inform your audience? According to your responses, these are the ideas you should keep in mind when you post content. Though Instagram is a huge community, that does not mean your content has to be for everybody! In order to increase your following, your content should have a clear focus and strategy.

6. Know When to Post
